Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, from Haute Couture to the Holy Halls of Notre Dame

Identified for his playful and vibrant designs and collaborations with pop royalty like Girl Gaga, Beyoncé and Rihanna, French designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac has an enormous mission: to decorate the 700 clergy for the grand reopening of Paris’s beloved cathedral after the devastating hearth 5 years in the past. The designs are enjoyable, trendy and easy. On the centre there’s a gold cross, surrounded by an explosion of vibrant colors which he describes as a river of religion and hope to symbolise the rebirth of the close to 900-year-old cathedral. A far cry from the popstar glam of his earlier years, de Castelbajac invitations Eve Jackson into his studio to point out that the worlds of high fashion and vestments aren’t as far aside as they could appear.
