TGL is all set to kick off its second season on December 28 with a match between the New York Golf Club and Atlanta Drive GC. The former team will take on the latter, who are the defending champions, with several changes to the league.
The SoFi Center’s Green Zone has been renovated to be 38 percent bigger than the inaugural season. It now measures 5,270 square feet, which is close to 5,701 square feet – the average size of a green on the PGA Tour. There are now 12 hole placements compared to the previous six.
Thanks for the submission!
While the first season of TGL saw the Green Zone have three bunkers, the smallest of them has been removed, with the other two becoming 50 percent larger.
The first set of golf holes used for the first season of the Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods co-founded league was a massive hit among the players and fans alike. Six of these holes have been updated to have more terrain local to the area of the golf hole. A new addition to this upcoming season is that each of these six holes will serve as official Team Holes for each of the six competing teams.
As the innovative SoFi Center uses grass hitting areas, they have been made bigger to improve the players’ divot management. The bunker sand hitting box has a lip that can be raised or lowered, making fairway bunker shots more difficult.
Based on feedback from spectators, TGL will now be providing those in the stands with complimentary earbuds to listen to player commentary or tune into the live broadcast.
Details of TGL Season 2 Match 1
The first match of the second season of TGL will be played at 3:00 PM ET between defending champions Atlanta Drive GC and the New York Golf Club. The former team will see Patrick Cantlay, Lucas Glover, and Billy Horschel playing, while the latter team will be represented by Cameron Young, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Xander Schauffele.
Atlanta Drive GC’s TGL Team Hole will be the Fore-O-Fore, which was known as the Sidewinder last season. The par five 622-yard long hole will be played as the 9th hole of the match. The updated hole will see scenic views of Atlanta’s iconic skyline with banners of the team’s logo among the buildings.
New York Golf Club’s Team Hole will be last season’s Pin Oak, which is now aptly called the Big Apple. Measuring 614 yards and playing as a par five, it will be the fourth hole of the match. The design features New York City’s iconic concrete jungle, Freedom Tower, and the Hudson River.
The three new holes making their debuts in TGL are Stinger, Fore-O-Fore, and Cenote. They will be played as the sixth, ninth, and twelfth holes of the day, respectively.
