Who were Dennis Dutton & son Jack? Details emerge around assistant who died in Greg Biffle plane crash

Greg Biffle‘s unfortunate plane crash claimed the lives of three people unrelated to his own family. In addition to NASCAR motorhome driver Craig Wadsworth, Commercial pilot Dennis Dutton and his son, Jack Dutton, were among the casualties.

Dennis Dutton was an international A-330 Captain at Delta Airlines and a retired U.S. Air Force Reserve pilot officer. He was accompanied by his assistant and son, Jack, who served as an Instrument Rated Private Pilot ASEL. Jack was a graduate of William Amos Hough High School in Cornelius, NC, before joining Auburn University as a flight student.

The two helped fly the Cessna C550 private jet when a mechanical issue caused trouble mid-flight. However, the plane crashed after a failed landing and blew up in flames.

The seven-member plane was headed to Florida to meet with YouTuber and part-time racer Cleetus MacFarland. Notably, Greg Biffle was instrumental in getting part-time ARCA starts for MacFarland. The two had also helped raise funds for Hurricane Helene relief efforts with a short two-man dirt race.

Kenny Wallace remembers Craig Wadsworth after Greg Biffle’s plane crash

Kenny Wallace shared a heartfelt tribute for the victims involved in Greg Biffle’s tragic plane crash. He highlighted his personal ties with Craig Wadsworth, who used to drive Wallace’s motorcoach when he raced in NASCAR.

“Oh my God, I just can’t believe this. Craig was my family to us at my daughter’s weddings, drove our motor coach for six years at least. And the only reason that Craig and I went our separate ways was in 2015. I retired, I was done and we gave each other a big hug and Craig found his way working with the great Greg Biffle,” Wallace said. [4:40 onwards]

“Craig is the man that taught me and saved my life and created two words, this wonderful phrase, no drama,” he added,”When Craig became my motor home driver you never knew anything was wrong and I believe I was at Richmond and I said Craig, ‘you never complained, there’s never nothing wrong’. Craig Wadsworth looked at me and he said, ‘Herman, there’s no drama.’

Wallace also noted that Wadsworth played a part in Greg Biffle’s rescue missions during Hurricane Helene. He recalled watching Wadsworth in the background whenever Biffle appeared on television during the relief efforts. Biffle used his own helicopter to rescue stranded people and helped provide food, water, and fuel for the needy.

After his last appearance in the 2022 Daytona 500, Biffle returned to the Cup Series as an honorary pace car driver for the 75th anniversary of Darlington Raceway earlier this year. As a two-time winner in the ‘Track too Tough to Tame’, the 55-year-old shared that he was ‘thrilled’ to be awarded such a ‘distinguished’ role.
