Australian legend Mitchell Starc picked Virat Kohli as number one among the three best cricketers he has played with amid the Ashes 2025-26 (via Kookaburra Cricket AUS/NZ). Starc is currently playing for Australia in their five-match home Test series against England.
At number three, Starc picked South Africa legend AB de Villiers. The pacer shared the dressing room with De Villiers for two seasons during the IPL in 2014 and 2015 when he played for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
“Did not get to spend a lot of time with him, but I spent a couple of IPL seasons in the same team. Such a phenomenal player. His preparation is second to none. His cricket knowledge was amazing. I got to build a bit of a relationship and friendship with him,” he said.
He picked his Australia teammate Steve Smith at number two. He stated that he was fortunate to play with Smith over the years and also praised his cricket knowledge.
At number one, Starc picked Virat Kohli. He played with Kohli during the same two seasons as he did with De Villiers at RCB.
“Number one would be Virat Kohli. The same couple of seasons that I spent with AB. To get to see his preparation, the way he dominates the game, he was captain of the team at the time, so to spend two years playing with Virat was really cool. I have had a lot of battles against as an opposition through the years and across formats but that time in the same team was really cool to build that relationship as well,” he stated.
Starc also made an honorable mention, where he picked former Australia captain and legend Ricky Ponting.
