John Cena Sr. slams WWE’s choice of potential final opponent for his son

John Cena Sr. has named a WWE Superstar he does not want his son to face in his final match later this month. John Cena will be competing in his final match on December 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

The winner of the Last Time is Now tournament will be squaring off against the 48-year-old at WWE SNME next weekend. Speaking on the All Axxess podcast, Cena Sr. made it known that he did not want to see his son battle Gunther in his retirement match. He claimed that The Ring General didn’t need the win and suggested that fans wouldn’t enjoy it.

“Well it certainly wouldn’t be Gunther, that’s for sure. I don’t think that that’s a wise move. I don’t think the fans would enjoy that move. Myself, personally, Gunther does not need the rub. By the way, I’m not a fan of on the way out you’ve got to push somebody over the top. You’re supposed to pass quote unquote the torch. I don’t know whether that’s written anywhere in professional wrestling,” he said. [H/T: Fightful]

Lana reveals how John Cena changed her WWE career

Lana recently disclosed why she was thankful for the opportunity to work with John Cena during her WWE career.

Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on the INSIGHT podcast, the veteran shared that she learned a lot from the legend. Lana noted that Cena told her to take calculated risks and apologize if they didn’t work out.

“Working with John Cena, I’m forever thankful for. I learned so much and I think it really carried into my in-ring wrestling because I knew sound. So like John Cena is another person calling all the spots, right? I’ll never forget when the ‘We want Lana’ thing started, and it started at live events. (…) John would always give us, always say, ‘You have to take calculated risk.’ And then he’s like, ‘Then if it doesn’t go as planned, you have to take ownership and say, ‘Sorry, that was my bad. Going to do something different next time,’” Lana said.

That’s all she wrote for @JohnCena on Monday Night Raw… 🥹🙏

LA Knight and Gunther will be competing in the finals of the tournament this Friday on WWE SmackDown to determine Cena’s last opponent.
