Luis Suarez has shared the advice he gave to compatriot and Barcelona star Ronald Araujo. He highlighted the demands at a club like Barca, claiming that fans can forget a player’s past contributions and demand even more.
Araujo joined Barcelona B from Boston River in 2018 before becoming a key player for the senior team. He has made 188 senior appearances for the Blaugrana and also contributed 12 goals and seven assists. However, he has faced plenty of criticism for his performances in the last two seasons.
Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez recently said that he spoke to Araujo about the criticism from fans, telling Diario Sport:
”Sometimes, when I talk to Ronald Araújo I tell him: When he scores goals or when he wins something, I tell him, remember, people have no memory and every three days they are going to demand the same from you, and that’s what happens to him, he has to perform every game between an 8 and a 10 because if not the people will already ask him. It’s what Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético demand of you. Be at a high level and constantly.”
Suarez was a key player for Barca from 2014 to 2020, helping them win numerous trophies, including a treble. He scored 195 goals and provided 113 assists in 283 games for them.
Jamie Carragher claims Barcelona must sell Ronald Araujo
The Blaugrana have had an underwhelming start to the 2025-26 campaign, especially in defense. They have kept just three clean sheets in 16 games across competitions. They are also second in LaLiga, three points behind leaders and arch-rivals Real Madrid.
Barcelona lost 4-1 against Sevilla at home on October 5. After the game, Jamie Carragher said that the Spanish giants must sell Ronald Araujo to improve their defense, saying:
“Every time Barça faces an elite opponent, he switches off and that is costing them dearly. If Barça want to do well, they must sell him with complete confidence. I like the attitude Araujo brings to games, but there comes a point where passion is not enough.
“Defending at this level is about decision-making, not just tackling. And that’s where Araujo has a deficit that ends up hurting his team at decisive moments and games in the season,” he added.
Araujo has made 13 appearances for Barcelona across competitions this season, starting in nine of them. He has helped them keep a clean sheet just once when he’s started.
