Sister Wives star Robyn Brown makes excuses for Kody Brown that sometimes seem to mirror how she reacted to her father’s behavior, which she witnessed as a kid. So, she likely learned this behavior long before the TLC series was on the drawing board.
Robyn rarely talks about her upbringing. But from what little she shared of her childhood, she seemed to use it to explain why she behaves one way or another today. What she witnessed with her father as a child, seems to still seep in to the excuses she offers up for Kody today.

Sister Wives has Robyn Brown offering excuses for Kody Brown when he steps out of line. The fourth wife of the now defunct polygamous marriage handles Kody Brown with caution at times, especially when she sees him as fragile.
Many of his adult children from his ex-wives still find themselves estranged from their father. But, fans say Robyn always seems to find an excuse for Kody when he fails as a father figure.
Despite Robyn urging Kody to make it right with his kids on the Sister Wives screen, she still doesn’t blame him for their estrangement. Instead, she cites his sadness over his failed marriages as the foundation for his kids’ severed relationships.
Robyn’s Excuses for Kody Mirrors Her Excuses for Her Father?
Robyn Brown has been a Sister Wives celebrity for over a decade now. In that time, she has said things and even written a book. It seems that even Robyn might forget some of the things she said.
Several years back, the Sister Wives adults penned a bestseller. Many things buried in those pages could explain what we see on the screen today. One case in point is how Robyn sees her father. First, Robyn Brown’s biological father is Robert Marck, a man little is known about among the series’ fans.
Her mother, Alice Fullmer, divorced Marck and married Paul Sullivan when Robyn was very young. Robyn Brown had little interaction with her biological father, but her stepdad became a father figure for her. So, when talking about her father on the Sister Wives show, she usually refers to Paul Sullivan, who died back in 2022.
He is the father we saw at her wedding to Kody and the dad who attended Solomon Brown’s birth. But despite adoring this man, she still needed to make excuses for him regarding some painful situations as a kid. Much like she does for her husband today.
Sister Wives: Pain and Excuses Embedded in Her Past
Many Sister Wives fans read the book that Kody Brown and his four wives wrote together, during the height of their popularity. Robyn mentions how while growing up, her polygamous family rolled with the punches. Because her mother was her father’s second wife, Robyn, her mom, and her siblings were his hidden family.
But she talks about an incident that evoked pain as a child when she went to a park with her dad, mom, and full biological siblings. Once there, her father spotted a co-worker. Since his first wife and her biological kids were his public family, he couldn’t be seen with Robyn’s mom and her kids.
So he walked away and ignored them. Despite Robyn Brown writing that “it hurt me terribly”, she understood why her father needed to do this. Robyn lived her childhood with her father, not introducing her mother as his wife.
Instead, she was introduced as her father’s “sister” or “ex-wife” with whom he remained cordial. So, making excuses for Kody Brown likely comes naturally for her. From what Robyn Brown said, her mom always smoothed things out for her with even more excuses as to why they couldn’t be acknowledged outside their home.
So, you might say Robyn’s dad installed these buttons for his wife and Robyn Brown. Those buttons seem to remain in place today and they give Robyn Brown a way to have excuses at the ready.
But, instead of growing out of this behavior, Robyn Brown perpetuates this excuse-giving today as an adult. So, Kody Brown still pushes those buttons today, likely installed by her father years before she appeared on the TLC series.
