I like the dichotomy of Ed Templeton opening The Sprawl in Antwerp at TVLG on Thanksgiving. It would even be extra multi-faceted than that. Orange County, and the skate, avenue and seaside tradition there, has been the topic of Ed’s work and pictures for many years, and it would not usually create a visible of “fall-Thanksgiving” for the remainder of the USA. And perhaps that’s what makes it so fascinating: Ed’s depictions of American life have been, up to now, overseas even to a lot of the USA, however now within the Trump period appear to symbolize a wider scope of how the nation has shifted to a extra insular and isolationist place. It’s a place obsessed and naive to itself, and the best way Ed has painted Orange County over time feels so comparable. —Evan Pricco
